Compassion in the Modern World
Wednesday, September 3
7:30 PM – 9:00 PM
We are honored to welcome Venerable Thubten Damcho and Venerable Thubten Dekyi from Sravasti Abbey Monastery in Washington state for a special evening of Dharma teachings and meditation on the timely topic: Compassion in the Modern World.
In our fast-paced, often divided world, how can we keep our hearts open and our actions kind? Drawing from the Tibetan Mahāyāna Buddhist tradition, the Venerables will explore how compassion is not only possible—but essential—amid today’s challenges.
Join us for this rare opportunity to sit with and learn from two fully ordained bhikshunis:
Venerable Thubten Damcho (Singaporean) encountered the Dharma while at Princeton University and went on to receive full ordination in Taiwan. A close student of Venerable Thubten Chodron, she teaches internationally and contributes to translation projects such as 84000: Translating the Words of the Buddha.
Venerable Thubten Dekyi (American) found Buddhism through the teachings of Venerable Thubten Chodron and has devoted her life to spiritual practice, monastic service, and environmental care, drawing from her background in natural resource management.
Whether you're new to Buddhism or have an established practice, this evening offers a heartfelt and practical exploration of how to live with compassion, clarity, and courage.
Open to all. No prior experience necessary.
Free admission. Donations welcome.
Bonus!
The Venerables will also be teaching at the Georgia Buddhist Camp from September 5–7. For details and registration, visit: georgiabuddhistcamp.com
Come experience wisdom, compassion, and community. We look forward to seeing you!
Driving the Dharma Home
Sunday, September 7
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Driving might seem like a mundane part of daily life, but what if getting behind the steering wheel were part of our spiritual practice? Venerables Thubten Damcho and Dekyi will share from Sravasti Abbey's latest publication, Driving the Dharma Home by Geshe Dadul Namgyal, in which a learned Tibetan scholar reads the Georgia Driving Manual as a guide for cultivating compassion and wisdom in our daily lives.
Agenda:
6:00 pm Introduction, breathing meditation, setting a motivation
6:15 pm Venerables take turns to share and reflect on their favorite excerpts from Driving the Dharma Home
7:00 pm Comments, discussion, Q&A
7:30 pm Dedication
Meditation, Dharma Talk & Sound Bath
Sunday, September 14
2 PM – 3 PM
Join us for a grounding and heart-opening afternoon of wisdom and healing.
Diane Russell-Chrestman, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and seasoned mindfulness teacher, will offer a 40-minute Dharma talk and Q&A on The Six Sense Gates—a foundational Buddhist teaching on how we perceive and respond to the world through our senses. Learn how awareness of these gates can bring more clarity, calm, and freedom to your everyday experience.
To close, Augusta Wheeler, a neighbor of Grant Park, yogi, and mom, will guide us through a 20-minute meditation and sound bath. With soothing tones and vibrations, Augusta creates a restorative space for inner stillness and gentle release.
Whether you're exploring meditation for the first time or deepening an existing practice, this 60-minute session invites you to pause, listen, and reconnect.
Free and open to all. No experience necessary.

Weekly Sunday Vietnamese Service
Vietnamese Chanting | 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Vegetarian Lunch | 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM
Each Sunday, we gather in the peaceful halls of Quang Minh Temple to nourish both body and spirit. Through Vietnamese chanting, we create positive vibrations that ripple through our sacred space, cleansing the mind, calming the heart, and grounding us in the present moment.
This is more than just a service—it’s a connection.
In the midst of our busy, ever-changing modern world—samsara—a consistent spiritual practice helps us anchor ourselves in peace, clarity, and purpose. It reminds us we’re not alone in our efforts to live with compassion and mindfulness. When we gather as a sangha, we are supported by one another on the path to liberation. The community we build is one of the Three Jewels (Triple Gem 💎 💎💎) of Buddhism, alongside the Buddha and the Dharma. Whether you’re a longtime practitioner or new to chanting, your presence adds to the collective energy of healing and harmony. Come chant, connect, and share a nourishing meal with us. We’d love to welcome you into our circle of peace. 🙏
